The European Spas Association launched the “Healing Water” Initiative to underscore the significance of mineral water. This initiative was first introduced at the European Spas & Balneology Congress in Karlovy Vary as a “Drinking for Health Initiative”. On Wednesday, 4 October 2023 during their journey to the grand reception at the Imperial Spa, over 150 attendees from 25 countries set a local record for the largest group drinking of healing mineral water.
Scientific research has repeatedly demonstrated that mineral water from natural underground reservoirs and springs is an excellent source of essential minerals, including calcium, magnesium, and sodium. Many European health and spa resorts incorporate mineral water drinking into their health prevention programs and treatments or rehabilitation for various medical conditions. Combining water drinking therapy with other treatments is crucial for addressing issues such as constipation, obesity, excessive stomach acid, and heartburn. Additionally, thermal and mineral baths are popular therapies due to their exceptional health and well-being benefits.
In March 2024, the European Spas Association showcased the Healing Water Initiative at the ITB in Berlin, offering a mineral water bar where visitors could sample various mineral waters. This experience was replicated in May 2024 at the Rimini Wellness Experience Show.
Csilla Mezosi and Iztok Altbauer from the European Spas Association were invited to the International Bled Water Festival, held in Bled from June 13 to 14, 2024. The forum focused on water safety and quality, discussing trends, the understanding of water drinking, and technological innovations. It concluded with the European Water Awards ceremony and the presentation and tasting of waters and water cocktails, under the auspices of the European Water Sommelier Association. The honorary patron of the event was Ms. Nataša Pirc Musar, the President of the Republic of Slovenia.
