With its new campaign “Berlin. Be part of it.” visitBerlin highlights everything that makes the city so attractive this summer: from the latest Berlin news, to sightseeing highlights, Berlin’s diverse neighborhoods, the outstanding art and cultural offers, and exciting events. “Berlin. Be part of it.” reflects the spirit of freedom that the city has regained. Captivating and memorable, that’s Berlin!

This summer has been filled with many new openings and visitors enjoying the Berlin lifestyle, which has returned to the city after some difficult months. No less exciting are the highlights that are yet to come this year.

After a successful BER opening one year ago, there are several new direct rail connections to Berlin that welcome slow travel and make the travels an experience themselves.

We also want to introduce you to further highlights in 2021, such as the Festival of Lights – a returning favorite each autumn – and the new Grand Show at the Friedrichstadt-Palast – a show that will enchant viewers.

Reopening of the Neue Nationalgalerie

Another milestone for Berlin’s museum landscape: The Neue Nationalgalerie – an architectural icon of modernism – has officially reopened after six years of extensive renovation on August 22, 2021. Despite these refurbishments, the uniqueness and spirit of the Mies van der Rohe building were completely preserved. With new shows including Alexander Calder. Minimal / Maximal, Rosa Barba. In a Perpetual Now and The Art of Society. 1900–1945: The Nationalgalerie Collection, Berlin finally has an important exhibition venue back, the “Jewel of Modernism” at the Kulturforum.

Festival of Lights

From September 3 – 12, Berlin’s landmarks, monuments, famous streets and squares will once again be bathed in magical light and illuminated with sophisticated art installations. The Festival of Lights will take place for the 17th time in September 2021 and has been a tradition in Berlin’s autumn since 2005. The light installations are tailored to the buildings and convey significant messages.

Berlin Beyond – Prussian castles in Berlin

Dive into the past and experience over 400 years of Prussian history in the 30 open castles in Berlin and Brandenburg. Some of the fascinating buildings can even be found in the city center. Others are set in a scenic waterfront location. Each castle and garden in Berlin and Brandenburg is a work of art in itself, waiting to be discovered.

Scandic and the honey bees

With its Scandinavian style, the Hotel Scandic at Potsdamer Platz provides a contrast to the hustle and bustle of a big city like Berlin. In addition to relaxation, sustainability has been a focus of the central hotel since its opening. The more than 350,000 bees living on the hotel’s roof are particularly noteworthy. Their honey has even been awarded with the organic seal.

Arise – the new Grand Show in Berlin

Following the success of the show VIVID, the Friedrichstadt-Palast has been staging a new Grand Show since August. With Arise, viewers can once again look forward to breathtaking sets, exciting costumes and outstanding artistic performances on the world’s largest theater stage. The story promises great emotions, which are transported through strong visual storytelling.
